What is BlackboardMom?

Graduate high school at the top of your class.

Go to college.

Meet your potential spouse.

Get pregnant.

Whoops! How did that get in there?

Life happened, that’s how. And I still thank God that it did!

Over a decade ago, having a child in college changed me forever. And I adore my son. But, deciding that I wasn’t going to marry my son’s father without real love and respect in the picture would be one of the hardest and the best decisions I would ever make.

Not killing me after she learned that I’d be having a child out of wedlock turned out to be the hardest decision my mom would ever make. I didn’t blame her, my Nigerian parents wanted more for me. My father said that I didn’t deserve to be raising a child alone.

I reassured them that I’d be fine. I still had my whole future ahead of me. My life wouldn’t have to change that much, right?

But as brave as I would have liked myself to be…I was terrified! Does this sound anything like you?

Have you taken the crazy, stressful, life-altering plunge into motherhood? If so, you’re in the right place, mama.

Welcome. Kick up your feet and stay awhile. If you do, you’ll soon find that you’re not alone.

Whether you are a single-never married (like me), married, a divorcée, a widower, etc., you are a mom for a reason. It’s a choice you made, one you make everyday.

Don’t get sucked up in:

  • The guilt from wondering if you are doing enough
  • The stress of juggling a career and a household
  • The doubts about whether your are raising the kids right
  • The pressure to be the perfect mom

If you’re here, you know that you are more than ALL of that. You are courageous. You are selfless. You are a provider. You are a risk-taker.

You are a CHAMPION!
And I wanna hear you roar, oh-oh-oh-oh-oh {in my best Katy Perry impersonation}

And someway, somehow, you’re seeking to be understood.

You seek:

  • Knowledge
  • Resources
  • Encouragement
  • Love
  • Support

You want more!

Hi, I’m Stacy. And I’m just like you, girl.

I have come to the point where I won’t be controlled by my fears or guilted into a mediocre existence. I have decided that I am going to live my BEST life the way the good Lord intended – with my purpose, my children, and with as much support as I can find!

That is where you come in. I am not here to convince you to love me. (But I do hope that you end up loving me) I am here to show you that you are enough!

My mission is to equip you on your journey in living a purposeful life as a mom.

I know how it feels to be looking for ALL the right answers in the wrong places. At one point, I had succumbed to the stress. I had let the depression take over. Honestly, some days are very hard!

Oh yeah, might I add, I now have three sons. I am a mom to a pubescent tween, an extremely active primary-schooler, and a lean, mean breastmilk drinking machine.

Single supermom over here!

I’m also super academic (hence Blackboard)! After taking what seemed like a forever break from college, I went back to earn both an undergraduate and a graduate degree. I am currently pursuing a second graduate degree in Education because I am also an educator.

But almost everyone said I wasn’t going to be able to do it. Work full-time? Live on your own? Pay bills? Pay for school? But I learned how to manage. Admittedly, I give all the praises to God.

Still, I am by no means perfect. I gave birth to my third son in the summer of 2020. Outside of being knocked up at the height of a pandemic, the pregnancy came with its unique challenges. I was facing the harsh reality of becoming a single mother again. But I knew that if I survived that heartache, it would mean that I am supposed to be alive.

Seeking an avenue to find like-minded moms who’ll allow me to return the love shown to me during my hard times, BlackboardMom was born. I believe that this is a higher calling.
